Kicksnarker is not affiliated with Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, Amazon.com, DriveThruRPG, RPGNow, McGraw Hill, Penguin Random House, Houghton Mifflin, the FBI, the CIA, the KGB, the NSA, KFC, Taco Bell, Wendy's, McDonald's, Sonic, or anyone else other than ourselves.
We have members who are employees of one or more of these groups and organizations, but unless someone specifically states that they are posting in their official capacity as spokesperson for someone, assume that they are just like you: Here to see what we dig up.
What Is Kicksnarker?
Kicksnarker is a community of people on Google Plus who enjoy highlighting absurdities that they have found on the internet, whether it's a good project with a bad goal or a completely stupid project. And by "project," we mean "anything you can find online." Products. Reviews. Websites. Crowdfunding projects.
So What Is This Community All About?
This community is about what the members think it's about. Really. We've mocked stupid things, but we've also had some fairly in-depth discussion of crowdfunding and what it's for and why it exists.
Sure, we mock a lot of really stupid things, but I learn something new from this group almost every day, and I suspect that I'm not alone in that.
So Is This Some Sort Of Official Kickstarter Group?
No. As a group, we are not affliliated with Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, DriveThruRPG, Amazon, or any other site to which we link. It's possible that individual members work for one or more of these companies, but their postings here (unless they specifically state otherwise in their post or comment) are not intended as official public statements for those companies.
What Makes You Guys Experts On Kickstarter?
I can't speak for everyone, but I've never claimed to be an expert. But the community includes a number of folks who have backed a significant number of projects - including several notable post-funding failures - and we number among our members several highly-successful project creators (and some project creators whose projects haven't funded). So we're not just pulling numbers out of our magic hats. We're speaking from experience both as backers and as project creators.
Have You Had Bad Flame Wars?
We've had disagreement. Realistically, this is the internet, and we are a community whose primary focus is mocking things. We've been very lucky that we haven't had any major rifts.
Do You Have A Mascot?
We didn't, but then +Sarah Perry-Shipp discovered the Sarkastodon. In part because it has the most awesome name ever, it is our mascot.
